Like communities, businesses change over time. For Al Doiron and his son, Marc, those changes have always been stepping stones to where they want to be: a local business, built for and with the community.
Al was originally a tugboat driver with a dream of becoming his own boss. In 1976, he translated that vision into Doiron Sports, and opened his own hunting and fishing store. By 2000, his son Marc had come aboard. They’ve shifted business gears – first selling the business, and ultimately buying it back with three partners – and re-booted their venture to provide a broader range of sporting goods. Even so, their focus never changed.
Doiron Sports nurtures a special brand of hands-on service locals won’t find anywhere else. Sports-loving staff focus on delivering a customer-first experience that brings second- and third-generation clients into the shop in Saint John (and seasonally in Miramichi) every day. It’s also why you’ll see their 40-foot trailer taking on the road to service fishing and summer team sport clients all over New Brunswick.
Kids who grew up shopping at Doiron Sports now come in with their own families – a real sign that Al, Marc and the team are exactly where they always hoped to be.
In their own words: “Every customer that walks through the door is a part of our story. That’s why you’ll see us here, there and everywhere – in the shop, using our trailer to take service to clients around the province, and supporting community groups. This isn’t just our business. It’s a business for all of us.”
Bet you didn’t know: Doing the right thing is the thing. That’s why Doiron Sports works behind the scenes to outfit kids who need it most with all the gear they dream of to keep them running, jumping, skating and more.
We Are 200 Strong.
