Any storm holds opportunity if you know where to look. When Vince Tukalj and his brother opened a used sporting goods shop in 1992, the country was struggling through a recession, and they were both holding down full-time jobs in sales.
More than three decades later, Vince and Sports Zone are still going strong, ready to weather whatever the future holds. They’ve grown from a small start to a 12,500 square foot retail space that blends big box capability with shop local personality.
Elite figure skating gear and expertise. Innovative products. High-tech opportunities to test before you buy. On-site batting cages to keep locals swinging for the fences. Whether you’re a beginner ball player, an intramural hockey lover, or a competitive athlete: they’ve got you.
With so much changing in real time, there’s once again uncertainty in the air. What do Vince and his wife, Susan, know for sure? Service is everything, knowledge is power, and shop local matters. They’ll keep on keeping on, tailoring what they offer to what locals need now and down the road.
In their own words: “We set out to show value to our customers every step of the way. That means asking what their needs are, why they’re here, and then working backwards from that goal to find the perfect product, especially for them.”
Bet you didn’t know: Mask it! Sport Zone’s moving with the times, and now producing creative non-medical masks for sports associations across the region. Just goes to show: when you shop local, you support local in more ways than one.
Please remember to shop local.
We are 200 Strong.
