Michel Mercier and Linda Labrecque, co-owners of Mercier Sports Excellence in Lac-Mégantic, QC, are a sports retail dream team. With his studies in physical education and her years of fashion retail apparel experience, it’s no wonder this pair provides their customers with quality products and services!
Since the beginning, Michael and Linda have believed in the importance of a personal, customer-first approach. For 12 years, they ran Intersports until it was unfortunately taken over by a large corporation. Rather than giving up and becoming yet another chain store, they partnered with the Sports Excellence family, and in September 2018, Mercier Sports Excellence, as we know it today, was born. Since then, they have been proudly serving their community with a variety of sporting goods, footwear, and apparel. We’re proud to have Michael and Linda as a part of the 200 strong team.
Michel’s BAC in physical education certainly comes in handy in the store as he educates his staff about everything from athletic training to nutrition. His team also brings their individual talents to the store as many of them play sports themselves. When you come into Mercier Sports Excellence, you’re sure to receive unparalleled friendly and knowledgeable service. Throughout the years, Michel and Linda have prioritized building relationships with their customers and keeping communication lines open. They’re always ready to go above and beyond!
Michel fondly remembers a customer who had played hockey for years but who was unable to continue because he had developed bunions. Michel used his expertise to refurbish the customer’s skates while adding extra support and comfort. Thanks to Michel, the customer was able to get back on the ice and play once again. These actions speak to how, at the end of the day, Michel and Linda are here to make a difference by helping athletes of every level grow and develop. He also extends his good nature to staff, many of whom are students balancing work, extracurriculars, and school, by giving them flexible working hours and accommodating their schedules. Ultimately, Michel and Linda believe in the well-being of everyone from their customers to their staff.
Outside of the store, Michel and his family are heavily involved in the local sporting community. These days, he gives back by volunteering as an assistant volleyball coach. In addition to putting in the time to help out, Michel and Linda sponsor junior hockey leagues and offer in-store discounts to the players and, more generally, to students and local sports members.
During these times, Michel and Linda are doing their best to support their community by offering assisted shopping.
