Armstrong’s has been a pillar for the Wainwright, AB community for over a century. The town was founded in June 1908, and only a few months later, Adam C. Armstrong founded Armstrong’s in August 1908. Although their first store burned to the ground in the Great Fire of 1929, they persevered and re-opened in 1930. Eventually, they moved to a much larger location in 1978, still located in Wainwright AB, where they remain to this day. Armstrong’s has been around for so long that they were a part of the original group of Marchand Unis. Their perseverance has allowed them to create a family legacy that has endured five generations over 100 years. We’re delighted to have Armstrong’s as a part of the 200 strong team.
The Armstrong’s name has stayed strong throughout the years. Marty Yurchak and Margaret Yurchak have owned the family business since 2008. Margaret is a 5th generation of the family and the two continue to provide the quality services and products that their customers have grown to know and love. Everyone in Wainwright knows Armstrong’s, and in turn, the Armstrongs know everyone in the community. Armstrong’s has an excellent relationship with their fellow Wainwright residents and over the years they have employed over 2,000 people from their beloved town.
Armstrong’s is always looking for ways to give back, and over the years have committed to supporting as many associations as they can within a 100km radius of their store. Currently, they sponsor 10 associations!
Armstrong’s comes from humble beginnings. They initially started out as a hat store, but eventually expanded to include groceries, and in the 1980s, they began carrying sporting goods for hockey, baseball/softball, golf, and curling. Today, they’re a department store that has everything from clothing to furniture to BBQ equipment. Armstrong’s truly has something for everyone.
With all that they provide the town, it’s no wonder that Armstrong’s is considered an essential business during these times. This means that Armstrong’s is still open, but they understand that customers may prefer shopping from home. To best accommodate everyone’s needs, Armstrong’s has added a delivery service for those in and around Wainwright and beyond, going as far as to deliver within 125 KM of the store. In fact, Marty just delivered a BBQ to Lloydminster, AB! The team is as dedicated as ever to giving their customer’s the best service possible.
Please remember to shop local.
We are 200 Strong.
